Ben Burns, director of the journalism program here, was awarded a $25,000 grant from J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism to help launch his local news site GrossePointeToday.com. The site will be devoted to coverage of Detroit’s east side and the Grosse Points. A mixture of 20 volunteers, mainly former professional journalists, local residents and students from Wayne State and the University of Michigan-Dearborn will provide content. Burns says he’d like to turn the site over to Wayne State in a year as a nonprofit entity. His photo accompanies the story.
