Wayne State University will sell $92 million in bonds this spring to fund a new Advanced Technology Education Center in Warren, and construction at the Multidisciplinary Biomedical Research Building at its Midtown campus. The bonds will fund various projects, including $31 million toward the university's new $93 million Multidisciplinary Biomedical Research Building at the former Dalgleish Cadillac building on Cass Avenue in Detroit, plus $9 million toward the $12 million projected cost of the Macomb County extension center site on 12 Mile Road. Another $18 million from the bond sale would go to renovate the WSU Student Center building; $23.5 million would go toward the $33.5 million cost of new laboratory classrooms and renovated research lab space in the Physics, Engineering and Shapero buildings. Another $8.5 million will go to renovate Manoogian Hall and a separate electrical infrastructure upgrade. Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president of educational outreach at Wayne State, said Wednesday the university will begin soliciting bids for a project architect and possibly a general contractor now that the board has approved the bonds, and will likely return with a project plan for the Warren center sometime around May. The Macomb center, on the grounds of a former Farmer Jack store the university purchased in 2011, would be the third phase of a Macomb County expansion the university began in 2007.
