MARY KRAMER: Are women single-issue voters?

Crain’s Detroit Business publisher Mary Kramer discusses the question in her opinion column: “Would Gov. Snyder sign into law what many view as the most regressive new laws governing abortion procedures in the country?” The bills would require women -- or their employers -- to pay extra for an insurance rider to cover elective abortions. Employers may find that abortion is now a workplace issue. They would require physicians and women to undergo onerous screening procedures. Dr. Jay Berman, director of the division of gynecology at Wayne State University’s School of Medicine and medical director for the family planning training program, is quoted in the piece. “"Statistically safe" office procedures would become surgeries, requiring doctors to invest thousands of dollars to meet new standards for standalone surgical centers, without providing significant benefits to patients.”
