WSU Rocks the Vote on National Voter Registration Day

September 28, 2012

WSU partnered with Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and the Michigan NAACP in one of several Rock the Vote events heldaround the country on Tuesday, Sept. 25, encouraging students to register to vote in this year's election.

HOT 107.5 radio personality Big Greg greeted students in Fountain Court while broadcasting live from the event, held as part of National Voter Registration Day.

Johnson, who earned her master’s degree in social work from WSU in 1988, stopped at her alma mater as part of the 3,000-mile ExpressSOS Voter Registration Drive. Her mobile office is visiting more than 20 college campuses and community centers this fall to encourage Michiganians to exercise their right to vote.

“Make a difference; make a decision to be part of our democracy,” Johnson told students at the event. “Be heard on election day. America works best when America votes.

Seventy-eight people registered to vote on Tuesday, and a total of 192 transactions were performed at the event.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 9. Stop by your local Secretary of State office or visit www.expressSOS.com for more information.
