Ontario residents stand to save thousands on tuition with WSU’s Great Lakes Award, international scholarships

Wayne State University is experiencing an influx of international students thanks to our excellent academic programs, tuition initiatives, and outreach initiatives aimed at increasing diversity in the classroom.

The university is hosting several events in Windsor this fall, including the Windsor Alumni and Friends Reception, hosted by WSU President M. Roy Wilson on Sept. 3, and an exclusive Canadian Open House event on Nov. 14. The open house will introduce prospective students to all the university has to offer and show why more than 2,500 Canadian students cross the river to become Warriors each year.

Canadian students are just part of the surge of international scholars coming to WSU. This fall, WSU will host nearly 300 students as part of the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, an initiative sponsored by the Brazilian government to strengthen the South American nation’s capacity in STEM majors.

The university’s Great Lakes Award provides undergraduate students who are residents of a state or province bordering a Great Lake with in-state tuition rates plus 10% — a savings of thousands of dollars each semester.

In addition, WSU offers several international scholarships and financial aid available exclusively to Canadian students.

“Wayne State is proud that we have more than 1,800 students from 70 countries as part of our student body,” says Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president for educational outreach and international programs. “Canadian students are our largest contingent in the international group with 512 enrolled for this fall.”
