Wayne State’s College of Education welcomes aspiring teachers during Graduate Open HouseMarch 7, 2013
Aspiring educators and those seeking further certification are invited to attend the Wayne State University College of Education’s (COE) annual Graduate Open House from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 25, at 5425 Gullen Mall. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the college’s 37 graduate programs, including its master's, doctorate and certificate programs.
“The College of Education has a long, rich history and is proud to be a leader in training urban educators to be reflective, innovative and committed to diversity,” said COE Dean Carolyn Shields.
Russell Maciag, a first-year graduate student, developed an interest in urban education after taking undergraduate coursework at WSU. “The College of Education offers many programs that focus on urban education and community involvement. If a student is interested in pursuing a career in an urban setting, WSU's programs offer the best preparation for what you will encounter in your career,” he said.
The College of Education is the academic home to four premium divisions: Administration and Organizational Studies; Kinesiology, Health and Sports Studies; Teacher Education; and Theoretical and Behavioral Foundations. Nearly 4,000 students — including more than 2,000 graduate students — are currently enrolled in the COE.
The Open House includes workshops on financial aid and preparing for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification. Faculty and students from all programs will be available to answer questions, and classrooms and labs will be open for viewing. The $50 application fee will be waived for all attendees.
