Wayne State University professor wins global award for course design

May 17, 2012

Geralyn Stephens, assistant professor and program coordinator for Career and Technical Education in Wayne State University's College of Education, won the 2012 Blackboard Catalyst Award for Exemplary Course Program.

The annual award recognizes faculty members and course designers from educational institutions around the world who develop exciting and innovative courses representing the best in technology and learning.

Stephens won the award for her course History and Principles of Career and Technical Education. "A key focus was to build strong learning communities that would transcend the course and provide students with professional support in their everyday teaching careers," said Stephens.

Faculty and instructional designers evaluated more than 250 entries in a rigorous peer-review process. Submissions were judged on course design, interaction, collaboration, assessment and learner support.

Stephens will be honored alongside 34 other Exemplary Course Program winners during BbWorld®, Blackboard's annual user conference, to be held in July in New Orleans.

Wayne State University is a premier urban research institution offering more than 400 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to nearly 32,000 students.
