As a Fulbright Scholar to Indonesia, Egan will be assigned to the city of Gresik, East Java, beginning in August 2009. He will teach English to local students while immersing himself in the Indonesian culture to "gain as much knowledge about their way of life as possible, while giving them a glimpse into American culture as well."

Egan, a Sylvan Lake, Mich. resident, received a bachelor's in secondary education degree with a concentration in biology from Wayne State. He spent time during the 2008-09 school year as a student teacher and a substitute teacher at Pontiac Northern High School, where he taught science classes and assisted students in the school's Title I after-school tutoring program.

According to the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, grants are made possible through funds that are appropriated annually by the U.S. Congress, or by contributions from partner countries and/or the private sector.

Wayne State University is a premier urban research university offering more than 350 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 31,000 students.
