May 7, 2009

Wayne State University in Detroit will host the MovingMedia Student Film Festival May 22-24.  The festival showcases the work of Wayne State students, and, for the first time, invites entries from peer institutions in southeast Michigan including Madonna University, the University of Windsor, Eastern Michigan University, Lawrence Technological University and the College of Creative Studies.

Submissions are due by May 8. Each collegiate team may submit up to three entries in any of five categories that include documentary, narrative, animation, music and experimental. Professional and academic industry experts will adjudicate the submissions.

"Given the re-emergence of the film industry in Michigan, MovingMedia's regional focus sends an important message to aspiring local filmmakers," said Kelly Gottesman, multimedia specialist, Department of Communication. "It validates the extraordinary talent of our youth and helps to establish a collaborative momentum in the quest to expand Michigan's indigenous film workforce and infrastructure."

The 2009 MovingMedia festival will also feature a 48-Hour Shoot-N-Show Challenge in which participating teams have 48 hours to create a short film. The Shoot-N-Show award ceremony will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 24, in room 150 of the General Lectures Building.
