DETROIT, MI (April 3 & 4, 2009) - Wayne State University's Dance Workshop presents its Spring Dance Showcase Concert on Friday April 3 and Saturday April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre. Featuring new choreography, Dance Workshop presents two performances of outstanding company and other WSU student works.
The Spring Showcase features a variety of exciting works choreographed by members of the Dance Workshop Company, as well as dances from other talented students from the Maggie Allesee Dance Department.
Freshman, Marianne Barcomb premiers her work "Harmony". Sophomore, Bryan Strimpel presents a rework of a previous piece "Unfold" exploring innovative movement and fresh ideas. Junior, Briana Rainey premiers her provocative new work "Moving Still" that delves into the emotional connections deeply rooted within ourselves.
Founded in 1928, the Wayne State University Dance Workshop focuses on artistic development, student choreography and repertory that mirror today's leading professional dance companies, in addition to bringing high quality dance to the campus and community.
General admission is $5; the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre is located in the Old Main building (3rd Floor) at 4841 Cass Avenue on campus. Boxoffice opens 30 minutes prior to performance. Seating is limited. There will be a silent auction held just outside the studio doors during both concerts. Funds raised from silent auction and ticket sales will benefit necessities for Dance Workshop.
