WSU College of Nursing Faculty, Students Featured on ABC News Now Segments on America's Nursing Shortage, Reaching 34 Million ViewersMarch 24, 2008
DETROIT, March 2008 - The opinions and insights of two faculty members and two students from the Wayne State University College of Nursing will be included in a pair of feature stories on nursing and the nationwide nursing shortage on ABC News Now, the network's 24-hour broadband news channel available to more than 34 million cable, mobile and streaming video viewers.
The segments will air during the channel's regular 11:05 a.m. segment sometime the week of March 24. The exact date for the broadcasts, once determined by ABC News, will be announced on the WSU College of Nursing Web site, www.nursing.wayne.edu.
CON Associate Professor Rosalind Peters, PhD, RN, and Assistant Professor Rhonda Conner-Warren, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, BC, along with senior nursing students Lynn Van Heest and Leslie Orihel, were interviewed March 17 in the College's Nursing Skills Lab at the invitation of the network, answering a series of questions such as "How would you resolve the nationwide shortage of nurses?" and "Did your education prepare you for the rigors of the nursing profession?" ABC News Now producer Dena Gudaitis said Wayne State was one of only "a small handful" of colleges of nursing asked to participate in the broadband segments.
"ABC News Now is our multi-platform network, part of the news division, meaning select cable affiliates, mobile devices and streaming video," Gudaitis said. "We were able to incorporate several of the videos we received not only from your institution, but from several of the other schools that participated as well."
